With the heatwave in full swing , I hope this post inspires you to turn to your home kitchen for quick, refreshing homemade drinks that help you ditch sugary syrups & artificial fizzy sodas through out this summer. From cooling fruit blends to traditional Indian summer favorites, these simple ideas are your everyday escape to real, wholesome hydration.
Fresh, light, and naturally energizing — this is exactly what your body needs right now. So say goodbye to all things artificial and sip your way through summer the better way. I have listed my top 5 drinks for this summer, all of which are my all-time favorites and 100% homemade .
1. Aam Panna (Raw Mango Cooler)
Aam panna is a refreshing summer drink made from raw mangoes and known for its cooling and hydrating properties. It helps prevent heatstroke by regulating body temperature and replenishing lost electrolytes. Rich in vitamin C, it supports immunity and keeps you energized in hot weather. With ingredients like cumin and mint, it also aids digestion and reduces bloating. Tangy, flavorful, and nourishing—aam panna is the perfect natural cooler for summer days.
Steps to follow
Slit 3 raw green mangoes length wise and dry roast them on open fire / on gas , until soft . Cool and peel , then scoop out the pulp into a mixie jar.
In the same jar , add 5 tbsp sugar (or jaggery) , handfull of the burnt peel , 2 tvsp roasted cumin powder , 2 tsp black salt, 1 tsp chat masala and a few mint leaves .
Blend everything into a smooth paste , add little water if necessary
Store this in a sterilised glass jar & store in fridge - Stays good upto 10 days
To serve , use 2 tbsp of this green goodness in a glass - combine cold water to dilute as needed.
Serve on ice , fancied inside a salt rimmed glass !
2. Grape Cucumber Cooler
A green grape & cucumber cooler is a perfect blend of hydration and refreshment, especially for warm days. Grapes are rich in antioxidants and natural sugars, giving you a quick energy boost while supporting overall health. Cucumber, with its high-water content, helps keep the body hydrated and cool. This drink also has soothing properties that can aid in reducing body heat and improving skin health. Together, this combination supports hydration, digestion, and detoxification, while being light and easy on the stomach. It’s a naturally refreshing drink that keeps you energized without feeling heavy.
Steps to follow
Blend 1 cup fresh green grapes + 1 whole cucumber + mint leaves into juice and strain
Add 1 tsp lemon juice and a little honey (optional).
Pour into a glass filled with ice.
Top with chilled soda or sparkling water.
Fancy the drink with cucumber ribbons inside a gin goblet
3. Gimlet ( Can be both Alcoholic & Virgin )
A citrusy refresher with a clean, crisp taste.
Steps to follow
Mix 1 glass of fresh orange juice with 2 tbsp fresh lime juice with 1 tbsp sugar syrup along with a few ice cubes to a shaker or glass. Add a Gin / Vodka of choice for the alcholic version
Pour in the mixture.
Top with chilled water or soda.
Stir well and garnish with a lime / orange slice.
4. Masala Chas (Spiced Buttermilk)
The OG of Indian Drinks - a glass of Masala chaas is a refreshing and nourishing drink that’s perfect for hot weather. Made from yogurt and water, it helps keep the body cool and hydrated, making it ideal for summer days. Rich in probiotics - it supports gut health by improving digestion and reducing bloating. The added spices like cumin and black salt further stimulate digestive enzymes, making it especially helpful after heavy meals. Its also a light, low-calorie drink that keeps you refreshed without feeling heavy, while providing essential nutrients like calcium and electrolytes. Simple, soothing, and effective—a glass of masala chaas is a natural way to stay cool and support your digestive health.
Steps to follow
Whisk ½ cup yogurt with 1 cup cold water.
Add a pinch of black salt and ½ tsp roasted cumin powder.
Mix in finely chopped coriander leaves and a little grated ginger (optional).
Blend or whisk until frothy.
Serve chilled.
5. Melon Mojito (Non-Alcoholic)
A juicy, minty drink that screams summer.
Steps to follow
Add 1 cup melon chunks (watermelon or muskmelon) to a mixie jar and strain the juice
Crush lightly few melon pieces and mint leaves , lime juice with a spoon or muddler in the serving glass. Fill the glass with crushed ice.
Top with half melon juice & half soda or sparkling water.
Stir gently and enjoy !
